Abstract
In a joint submission with EcoMind, YTN and EcoMind make recommendations to the Senate on AI and data centres. Youth Tech Net recognises AI innovation represents an economic opportunity for Australia. However, AI infrastructure must not come at the cost of Australia's natural environment, climate goals and sustainable development goals. Therefore, our position is that hyperscale data centres in Australia represent a significant and unnecessary threat to environmental security and human rights. In this submission to the Senate, Youth Tech Net and EcoMind urge the government to:

1. Ensure a mandatory requirement that all hyperscale data centres run using 100% renewable energy without carve-outs;
2. That data centre providers undergo mandatory reporting and regular auditing of energy consumption and water usage.
